Inside the Process: How PVC Coated Fabrics Are Made

PVC coated fabrics are essential in industries ranging from construction to transportation due to their durability, flexibility, and resistance to harsh weather conditions. At uctextile, we ensure the highest quality by mastering each step of the manufacturing process.

1. Selecting the Base Fabric

Every great coated fabric starts with a strong foundation. The fabric density determines strength and flexibility. Our team selects base cloths based on the desired final properties, such as tensile strength, elongation, and weight.

2. Pre-treatment and Surface Preparation

Before coating, the base fabric undergoes heat setting and surface treatment to ensure good adhesion. This includes cleaning, tensioning, and applying a bonding agent or primer to enhance the bond between the textile and the PVC layer.

3. PVC Formulation and Coating Process

Our PVC formula is customized based on end-use: UV resistance, flame retardancy, anti-mildew, cold crack resistance, and color stability.

The coating process involves spreading liquid PVC (plastisol) onto the fabric using knife-over-roll or spread coating techniques. The number of layers, coating thickness, and curing temperature are carefully controlled to achieve consistent quality.

For blockout fabrics, we include a black layer in the middle to ensure 100% opacity.

4. Embossing, Lacquering, and Finishing

Depending on the product application, we can add:

  • Embossing: A textured finish, like 3D diamond patterns, enhances anti-slip or aesthetic properties.
  • Lacquering: A protective topcoat improves dirt resistance, color fastness, and cleanability.
  • Welding Compatibility: We test weldability to ensure seamless joins during installation.

5. Inspection and Quality Control

Each batch goes through rigorous testing: tensile strength, tear resistance, flame retardancy (B1/B2/NFPA 701), color consistency, dimensional stability, and weather resistance. We follow international standards and customize tests upon request.

6. Customization and Logistics

We offer custom colors, thicknesses, widths, and roll lengths to match client needs. With efficient packing and global shipping support, our products reach clients worldwide quickly and safely.

The manufacturing of PVC coated fabrics is a technical process that blends chemistry, textile engineering, and quality assurance. At uctextile, our commitment to precision and performance ensures that each roll of fabric meets the demands of diverse applications.
